Steering rack?
Okay well my power steering rack has about had it...it leaks quite a bit. And I was wondering what my options are for replacing it. I've heard of people swaping in a sn-95 steering rack but I'm not sure what the advantages of that are. Also I'm kicking around the idea of going to a manual rack. I'm aware of the obvious weight reduction but from a performance/cornering stand point is there any advantage to this. Thanks!

Re: Steering rack?
Depends...
I have a 1989 Mustang, that I swapped in a 2000R rack (different than SN95 rack, yet similar). In order to do this, you will need a new steerng shaft $150-ish, and new tierod "sleeves" (the aluminum sleeve) to adapt the old tierod with steering rack rod. Manual, might be doable for the street/strip. Better ask a dragracer (not roadracer) for better opinion. Some help here: http://www.maximummotorsports.com/in...TR-1-3-6r1.pdf

Re: Steering rack?
Cool thanks man! What's the difference between the sn-95 rack and the 2000R rack? Do you know the steering ratio's for the different racks? Thanks again!

Re: Steering rack?
The ratios for most any rack is 15:1 (most all of us) or 20:1 (rare and wimpy).
The difference between the 2000R and other SN95 racks are some on-center feel and feedback, but nothing to do with ratio. I just got one from a local Ford employee, and since I was replacing it, might as well get one of these "better" ones...
