ok first off I can not spell. Has anyone ever used one of the adjustable brake proportioning valveds. says it can go from 100 to 1000? Does it replace the equalizer? Is it worth getting? Does it help the have the rear breaks to help out more?

You can use the proportioning valve to help fine tune your brake bias. THe perfect "curve" is an arc, and the prop valve has a "kneepoint" (kink or bend) trying to simulate that curve.
I used one on my Cobra M2300k brakes:

You will also want to follow these instructions FOR THE M2300K kit). Dont know if I would recommend them on the current stock system, and the factory prop valve would be in conflict (IMOHO).

I would be installing it with 13" cobra brakes. The brakes are supposed to be sent today. Do you think it is worth it?

Most definitely on the 13" brakes. It should come with the kit, or if not, they are only like $30. And you can adjust them from "zero" on up...

Drudis,

I have been considering getting a proportioning valve as I have 13" front Baer brakes and stock rear brakes and I'm sure it's not optimal with the factory proportioning. How do you know when you have the adjustable valve set correctly? Do you just go by trial and error and see how it feels or if the tires lock up at different settings when you brake hard?

You basically want them set up to NOT lock up before the fronts do.

This procedure may be a bit unorthodox, but has been what I did... You go out on a rainy (wet) road, and ajdust until the rears just lock up about the same time as the fronts. Then adjust till they dont lock up before the fronts. You are trying to get a feel for how much adjustment equals what in effect.

This is easier than testing on dry pavement (saves on flatspotted tires), and you dont need as much speed to produce the lockup... It also assumes that when the road is dry, you get more weight transfer to the front tires (more grip), and less grip in the rear. Thus, you need to adjust LESS rear bias in the rain.

Then, go out with this ballpark, and try several tests with dry tires. Its a trial and error test...

They just sent the breaks out and when I ordered them they said 1994-1998. I sent an email to them along time ago and today they answered. They said it is for 1996-2003. will 1996+ breaks work on a 1994 stang?

From what I can gather the brake kit you ordered will work with your car, but you may need an extra part to make it work. What makes me think this is the fact that some companies list '94-95 separate from '96-02 and the '94-95 kit costs about $100 more. You might want to give Steeda a call - this is what their website says:
'Upgrade your 1994-2002 GT or V-6 with the awesome brakes from the Mustang Cobra. It's easier than you think! Parts needed and prices will vary depending on the year of your car, so call our expert sales staff to find out what you need. '
Their number is (954)960-0774.
