Struts/Shocks

I have to replace my struts so I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good set of struts/shocks? The car is a basically stock '94 cobra,it it mostly street driven and, eventually I will lower the car and put poly bushings in it ect.., but for now I just want to replace the struts/shocks and put a set of caster/camber plates on it.

Go to www.stangsuspension.com and get the Bilstiens. I have them on my 94 and I LOVE THEM!!!

Bilsteins and Konis are great. If you want something a little cheaper that is still excellent quality you could go with Tokicos. I'm not impressed with KYB's or Monroes (I'm very performance oriented).

Do you drag race sometimes or are you more towards open track? Since I 90% street drive my car, but when I race it's drag racing I used the Tokico 5-way adjustable illumina drag struts. They are 50/50 (setting 5), but then adjust from that all the way to like a 90/10 (setting 1 - 4). Otherwise, you can get the 5-way adjustable street/track illuminas that are ideal for street or open track.

We use the Tokico's on the '96 Cobra. They were great but, we are now pushing the limits of ther stiffness. I have heard the new Tokico's are much better & Tokico will rebuild/valve them for whatever you want. I have not researched the new ones, maybe someone else has.

If you start pushing th spring rates, then the Tokikos arent enough. Currently I run the Koni Yellow (single adjustables) from PPI.

I am currently running the stock springs. Which from what I have been told/able to find out are weaker than GT springs.

It was my understanding the Cobra springs were stiffer than the GT's, though I could be wrong. Tokiko has a Illumina kit that I've seen for as low as $350. It comes w/ springs, struts & shocks. It does not come w/ a new rear bumpstop $15. You could probably get a set of used '95 "R" springs pretty cheap.

Is it a lowering kit? If so other than a rear bumpstop would anything else need to be replaced, steering geometry problems?

Aftermarket Caster/Camber plates are recomended. Maximum Motorsports has the best around. Other than that everything else stays the same. You may want new spring isolators if your factory ones are all dried up. You can get those from MM also. The isolators go on the tops & bottoms of the springs to minimize noise-squeaking.

He'll set you up with the right shocks (and even springs) to get the car to ride right.

Look in the archives in this forum, as I always recommend the H&R or Eibach 450-580 progressive rate. AWESOME street spring.

p.s. My 425# coilovers translate to (depending on who you ask) 1000# to 1700# rates. VERY stiff, but this is for mostly a track car, and with low friction delrin bushings...

I finally got around to looking for that Tokico Illumina kit and was unable to find one for my car. The only kit I saw was for 99-00 GT's, am I not looking in the right place?

The kit number is ILK210. It fits '94-'98 Cobra.
