Post worn out front struts?

How can you tell if your front struts are getting tired and worn out? I don't think bouncing each corner is an effective test. Any ideas?

How many miles on'em? Struts can wear out in as little as 40k! Especially under harder than normal use

My car just started shaking in the front on the blown out strut side. It also makes the car hop violently over rough surfaces when they are worn. Basically, it makes your car feel really old..

Once you get to the bouncy-bouncy mode, you needed to replace them a year ago.
Basically, if the car drives better (firmer) on a very cold morning right off the bat, then they get weaker and floatier as they warm up, that can be an indication to replace them.
