Well, if you are going to be driving in any type of snow I say you must go with 4 wheel drive. I had an 1987 F-150 (2 wheel drive) before my stang and if you think the stangs can be a trick in the snow, that truck was much worse. Other than that, I liked the truck. I had the 300 inline 6 in it. I never had any problems with it and it had about 120,000 miles on it. I know you can get the 302 and 351 in the trucks too. Not sure on the rangers though.
Oh, I also suggest not buying the 4 speed manual tranny that came in some of them. I had it and really needed an overdrive, especially with the 3.55 gear it had in the back. |

Rangers came with 2.2L (4 cyc), 3.0L (V6) and 4.0L (V6). Ranger is a good choice for a work vehicle, if it's just going back and forth. But overall they're a good truck. I've got a 93 and haven't had any problems with it.

It really depends on what you are going to use it for. Work truck with big loads = full size with a V8. A lot of miles = smaller engine with good gas milage. Are you going to drive off-road or in snow where you'd need a 4X4?

Probably I need 4x4! A friend told me that the Nissan Patrol and Toyota Landcruiser is very god. Anything to say about that...and this is for my work, not weekend I will probably drive with up to 1500kg behind the car but not any longer trips, and short trips offroad with the weight behind. Best "Workbang# for the money???

For gas mileage I would go with the ranger. I suggest the 4.0 liter V-6, my brother has on in his 92 and it is strong for a V-6(190 HP stock). A F-150 4x4 is heavy, my dad's 88 weights 6000 and with the four foward manual trans only gets about 10 MPG with a 302. With the F-150 don't get the 300 straight six, you'll only get about 2 to 3 miles a gallon better mileage and you'll have less power.
