The 2001 GT Transmission

I dont beat up on my cars anymore, Im past that point..with my 96 GT it took a while for the clutch to loosen to my comfort level, and the throw in the gear box was quite long compared to newer ones. I was able to take off normally using first gear and shift cleanly to second, with my new GT (2001 Mustang GT 4.6L V8 5-Speed) shifting from first to second is still pretty choppy, what has been the easiest for me is taking off in second and just leaning on the clutch a second or two longer than if accelerating in first gear...does anyone else take this approach to moving the car, which seems to have a shorter throw in the gear box?...If anyone understands this long, weird question..

OK, How About Clutch Replacement?

This is an easier question..I drive my car conservatively but the throwout bearing is always the first thing to wear when I drive (because of the work boots I always wear)..I had to get the entire clutch replaced professionally on my 96 GT because you can no longer just reach down into that engine block and pull out the clutch disc, pressure plate and bearings..usually the car has to go on a lift and the entire exhaust has to come off. Can anyone give me any advice on replacing the clutch myself, without having to spend $600 in labor hours for a mechanic?
