I belive my '89 Bronco with a 351w-the book said 220HP 310TQ-something like that. Trust me, it fells like more. I wouldn't go to a 302. It is underpowered for towing. A diesel powered truck would be the best rought to go for towing only. It makes a nice everyday truck too. Not bad miliage. My dad gets 17 in his '94.

Yes, '85 and up are fuel injected.

Stang Runner,

I have a '92 F-150 with a 302. I have towed several cars at times without any problem. The 302 will have plenty of power to tow and haul. Also, don't be afraid of getting the 4.9L streight 6. It actually has more torque than the 302! And it is a good towing engine also.

Of course, if you are planning of towing something large like a motor home, I would get a bigger engine or a diesel.

Hope this helps.

Thumbs up

I'm a 302 '83 Bronco 4x4 owner and it tows my Mustang and trailer uphills fine. You can never have enough power and torque. My Bronco is perfect for my needs. When I need more power, I'll build a 347 for it.

Default SVT Lightning

Get yourself a 93-95 GEN 1 Lightning. 351W and will have absolutely no problem towing your stang. Underated at 240hp and 340 lb/ft of torque. You can race rice while pulling your stang to the strip. You could also then have two vehicles to race at the track when you go . Most guys that have dyno'd stock L's have found more like 260-270 hp at the motor rather than the 240. The torque is what really does the work though. And the L's have plenty of it. Low 15s stock on the GEN 1's. Mine ran a 15.3@90 with a 2.3 60ft.

My 93 F150 4x4 has a 302 with 410 gears, I dont get the best mileage but I have no trouble with pulling trailers. I have a mastercraft ski boat that its hard to even tell that its back there, if I hook up my dads boat (a 25 foot wth a 460 king cobra) you will know its back there but it does a good job with out any problems and is just getting broken in with only 116,000 miles.
