Question Tire size question

Hi guys,

What's the maximum size that you can go on stock Mustang rims? I think the rim size is 17x8 or 17x7.5. I looked on tires.com and the website says a Plus Zero size of 275x40x17.

Also, anyone try that SpiralMax? If so, did it work?

Thanks!
Mike

SPIRALMAX? you have to be kidding ,right! What a joke, that is about as worthless as an intake spacer!

Tire size for stock rims is 275/40/17 you may be able to put on a 285 but anything bigger needs to be on a bigger rim

275s are what come stock on a 17x9 rim. On a 17x8 I wouldn't go any wider than 255.

I agree that 255 is the maximum width I would put on a 8" rim. 275/40 is recogmended for 9"-11" rims

I just posed this same question to TireRack today. 255's is the max you can go. You will not be able to keep the same wheel and tire diameter with that tire size either. It will be only slightly different. You need 9" wide rims in order to go with 275's.

the widest tire on a 17x8 rim is 275 with NO problems . 15x8 rim you can put a 295 tire on easy with NO problems and on a 17x9 rim you can put a 315 with NO problems

I'd have to disagree, explicitone. Whether you can put a tire that big on a rim that wide all depends on your application. Low profile performance tires with stiff sidewalls and high inflation pressure are not going to fit like that - the sidewalls will be sucked in and the middle of the tire will bulge out and wear prematurely. Taller, more forgiving sidewalls and lower inflation pressure allow alot more freedom in tire size.
