Hood Pins Install

Hi,
Have any of you with 87-93 Fox stangs installed hood pins? Im going to be buying some tomorrow (and will install it later in the week), and was just wondering how hard is it to install.

What should i look into before drilling that first hole in the hood? What quality of hood pins should I stay away from? I saw a pair for $14CDN ($10US) made by Mr. Gasket and it looked worth buying but I didn't cuz the circle plate had some scratches on it.

NO SUMMIT PINS!!!!!!!

they are cheap and cruddy. Mine already rusted, and the stupid clasps are not even all metal they are some kind of plastic crap I don't know, but they are totally lousy...

Hey Mustangbelle306- Why do you have hood pins? The reason I ask is because my hood shakes at the sides going 75mph+, kinda nerve racking. Did you have the same problem? I've been thinking of getting some pins, but don't like the look.

I like J.C. Whitney's locking hood pins. My neighbor has them, and I ordered a set a couple weeks ago. They should be here any day. They have a little key that locks them. No silly little cable with a pin on it. Sharp looking, IMO. $23(US) shipped.

Hi,
I was aware of two stores in my arae that had the exact same brand of pins (by Mr. Gasket). One store had it for $22 and the other had it for $13. Guess which I bought.

I'll install it either today or tomorrow...I don't get back from work till 5pm tomorrow, so we'll see.

Hey Guatam, Marbles is an 87 GT. I put pins in recentaly

. The Mr. Gasket ones are nice, that's what i have. Make sure you line them up right, and measure 3 times, drill once. Start with a amall bit and work your way up to the size needed. When drilling out the hood, finish it by drilling from the top so that it doesn't hump up where the hole is. Take your time, a hood is a bi**h to replace. Light Em Up!!!

Yea, thx for the advice NoSlow5.0. I will take a good few hours to make sure everything goes right. I'm gonna make use of some scotch tape and make sure the target on the hood is same on both ends.

Hi,
Success! After exactly 5 hours (9:30-2:30), and a little burn on my thumb, and a cut on my other thumb, I wad done fully. It was such a b*tch to drill 6 holes (two on radiator support, 4 on hood - hood has two layers wehre I drilled), but it was all worth it.

I was also pretty accurate on where I made the drills, because at most, I was only off by a mm or two.

And the stang looks so good now!
