Question Tricks for 5.0L in 96 Explorer AWD

Does anyone have any suggestions or know if the same things that help 5.0L Mustangs will help 5.0L Explorers? I will be using the Explorer as my tow vehicle for the Mustang, our horse trailer, and jet skis so I would like a little more power. The Explorer has "distributorless ignition" so upping the timing is out. Will an intake spacer work on the Explorer? Can I install a MSD 6A on this ignition system? I am also having difficulty locating a reasonably priced aftermarket exhaust. Borla has a stainless steel for about $500.00. Flowmaster makes one for the V6 but does not list one for the V8. Will the V6 system work on the V8? Thank you in advance for any suggestions.
