Engine swap:

First time on your site, please be patient with me and the questions I pose.

First, I am not a Ford man; however, my son is. I am here to help get information on doing an engine swap in his 1994 Ranger. When I mentioned that I am not a Ford man it is to inform you that concerning engine terminology, etc. that Ford owners use I am not familiar with. So, I am asking for a bit of understanding from you as you attempt to educate me, and my son.

The project my son wants to embark upon is replacing his 6-cyl. with a 5.0. He has been told that the1989 to 1993 5.0's would be his best choice because the wiring is not as complex for these years, vs 1994 and '95. Is this true?

There is a local facility where my son could pick up a 5.0 with the T-5 transmission for $2,000.00, or so. There are several of these units available: years range from 1991 - 1993, and the milage typically is 44,000-93,000 miles. These engines come complete with the computer, and all associated wiring. Would this be a viable choice for him to pursue? OR, should he get a rebuilt engine? Or, a new engine? And,are there sponsors on this site that may be able to accommadate us with this?

There are many more questions, but this will give you a flavor of the initial ones as we start out. Look, you folks are the professionals, that's why I am here, for your help. It will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

Well if u can afford it go with all new stuff or a rebuilt motor. Only get one of the used ones if money is an issue. If money is not an issue get a long block already put together like a 331 or 347. These are questions better for the windsor fourm though. But defenitly make sure u get a 5.0 with mass air. Everything form 89 and up came wiht mass air the speed denstiy was before 89. They will know more about this in the windsor forum. Good luck.
