Talking 87 ranger motor swap

What is the biggest engine you think that could be shoehorned into a 1987 ranger xlt. I got it with the 2.3 4 cylinder and a stick and I actually wanna put a big v8 in there to make it up some hills . I also have to do this on a tight budget.

You can get a 460 in there with a c-6 if you use the right hammer... I seen a link one time for a bunch of swap kits and bought a book from www.kaufmanproducts.com when I wanted a V8 Ranger..The book is pretty informative.. you chould check it out

Ranger. genrally yes. 2.3.s are pitiful. but..... i have seen and read putting a turbo 2.3 with engine mods in a 2wd ranger hitting low 13's! im not exaggerating either! remember the 2.3 is liter and adding a turbo and a good flowing head you would be amazed!

2.3's arn't that bad, bad on gas-lol

A 5.0 will fit much nicer, with less work, and plenty of power. In fact, I have on for sale, want it-lol. But seriously, a 5.0 is a comon swap and I'm sure u can find a kit with not too much of a problem.
