Question I need a higher output alternator.

I'm so confused. I just need a higher output alternator to keep up with my stereo system in my '90 LX 5.0. I can't pick one! I keep reading all this crap about one wire hook-ups and stuff. I just want one that will bolt right up and use the 2 plugs I have now. Is there an alternator like this? I'm looking for like 130-140 amps. Am I going to have to get one that I'll have to make "a few minor modifications" to get it to work in my car? If there is one out there that will just plug right in, please tell me which one it is ( a part number would be awesome) and if not, can someone describe what the hell the "few minor modifications" are that are required to make it work in my car. Thanks a lot. I aplogize for my stupidity, I just dont get it!

Default Powermaster

I have the Powermaster 140 amp alternator installed and have had it for over a year now.

The "One-Wire hookup" is very nice too. Just one positive (red) wire from a gold stud post on the rear of the alternator to the positive terminal on the battery. That's it.

No more dim lights at idle even with my underdrive pulleys.

It took 5-10 mins to install.

Good Luck.

Or you can look at www.paperformance.com

You can also run a search here for a 3G conversion, it is basicly the same as the paperformance, but you use a 94-95 GT Alt. and do a little modifacation to it. It is a bit cheaper than the paperformance, but the PA is plug and go.

Ok I think I'm gonna get the Powermaster 140 amp. So do I just not use the plugs from the factory or whats the deal? Do I use them and just use the one-wire hook up from the alternator to the battery?

The 130 Amp upgrade is not that hard. If you want to upgrade your alternator your going to have to do some wiring. If you don't want to do it yourself I know some people local to you who can help or would do it for you for cheap. PM me or go to my clubs page at www.midwestfords.org
