'75 F250 to play with

Check this out, my friends dad bought a 75 F250 with a 460 in it!!! He's letting us mess around with it, put exhaust and stuff and maybe some stuff to the engine, like a carb and intake or something. Who knows, anyway, it's been cool working on an old truck, I'll have to get one. He's also got a 79 F150 with a 400M that we're gonna put a cam in and maybe slap some headers on it. And exhaust of course. I'd love to see one of those big heavy trucks going 14s at the track. Anyone got any old trucks they mess with?

My parents used to have a 79 f350 with a 460. I always new they when they where coming home. U could hear that truck from a mile away. I love my 97 f150. The 5.4 is awesome. I think i am going to play around with it a little bit maybe add some stuff to it. Not sure though. Rather spend the money on the mustang.

The way I figure it, even if we dont' end up modifying the truck at all, at least we've got some kick butt tow vehicles for the cougar. :-)

Quantum, with your older Ford FE motors you are working with you oughta check out www.fordfe.com/ to get a lot of very usefull info. For starters, like they'll tell you, the 400M is a crap motor. Go talk to them and see what you should do. I've misplaced all of my 400M info that I had got from them last year. They know their stuff.

I had a '78 F150 with a 400M, 9" rear and DANA 44 front and a C6 (NP205 transfer case) and man that thing was indestructable. Great torque for a small block. That block is given a bad wrap because it has the same oiling problems as the regular cleveland engines and because of the smog police, it's ladened with smog stuff and restrictive intake/exhaust and i think it's also a siamese bore block (no cooling passages between bores, but i'm not absolutely sure on that). The large stroke in that engine is great for producing lots of lowend torque and you really don't need to even touch the heads except for maybe the valve springs because of the large stock intake and exhaust valves as well as good sized ports. The 400M is a horrible drag race engine (hates high rpm's because of the increased piston speed from the stroke), but for low rpm torque and for idling along offroad trails it's a great engine. The good thing about the 400M is that it has the big block bellhousing pattern so you can put the better 460 engine in it's place. The 460 is a better engine in almost every respect, but i still have a soft spot for the clevelands.

it is awesome as a tow vechile. It is not very good for off roading or anything like that. It has been lowered a couple inches and is a 4x2
