Default should i tackle a 96 T-bird heater core?

My mother's heater core in her 96 3.8L thunderchicken has gone south (leaking out of the drain in the firewall) and I don't want her to go spend lke $500-600 to have a shop do it.
Has anyone here done one in a t-bird? Is it much different than a stang? I've done mine a few times so I know how bad that sucks. I only had to do it the second time because when i was putting my intake on, i accidentally broke the inlet tube to the heater core clean off, that sucked.

Anyway, if it isn't any worse of a job that on a stang then I will do it. Does the whole dash have to come back like on our cars?
I'm a little weary of working around airbags, but will i have anything to worry about if the battery is completely disconnected?

thanks for the help,
-Drew
