wierd fan problem
Ok,on my 79 F250 ranger my heater fan stays on after I turn the key off. The fan goes to low speed , even if the fan switch is on full, If I turn the slide to "off" it turns off. I changed my ingition switch, thinking that might be the problem but it wasn't. Any ideas?

Are you saying that the fan is powered independant from the ignition (ie: you can turn it on any time without the key), or that it turns on by itself when the engine is running?
Take care, ~Chris

well, if its on when the key is turned off, it stays running, but on low speed. If I turn it off by the slide, it stays off, and I can't turn it back on unless I turn the key back on. When the key is on it works just fine. I can hear the relay click when I turn the slide to off. Hope this clears it up, but please ask anything you want.

I didn't stump the great pkrwud? Really? I'm blushing....
But really, anyone? I going to try a fan switch soon, maybe that will help.

So what u are saying is when the key is turned off, the fan is still getting power, but a low amount, just enough to make it run in low speed. But when u turn off the fan, it won't come back on. But when the key is turned on, it works fine.
First thing is trace the power to where it's coming from. Get a tester with a light in it, and go to where normal power goes to the fan, when the key is on. Turn off the key, and see if the light stays on, I.E. the light goes dim, but stays on. I'm guessing that you'll find that the fan is still getting power, but a low amount. Let me know if u can trace this back to anything. As For Chris, who knows if u really stumped him or anything.

I've been working out of town this week. Sorry. Your problem sounds like you have a short somewhere, which means pulling the harness and tracing the wires, as suggested. I don't have a simple solution, but you need to find the problem before it gets worse.
Take care, ~Chris
