cam specs for my bronco
I was wondering what would be a good cam for my Bronco, and where to get one.
Heres the stats it's going to be: Rebuilt heads with oversize valves(not sure what size yet) bored out .30 to .40 over 9.8:1 compression(maybe more?) K&N air filtercharger kit full lenth headers(yes, I found some for sale from headman) sidepipes(the kind u see on old cars) holley ignition kit I guess I'd also have to have the computer redone too hu?

Give Terry at Cam Motion a call at 225-926-6110. They do awesome cams, both flat tappet and roller, speeddensity or mass air. Tell him your set up and he'll custom make you a cam. Alot of the Gen 1 Lightning guys use his cams. He is highly recommended in the National Lightning Owners Club. He can make a great cam for your speeddensity, flat tappet set up. No you won't have to do anything to your computer. His cam will keep the correct vaccum for the speeddensity.

I don't have to redo the comp, even with the other mods, if I get a cam from him? That would be sweet. Where is he located, and is there a toll free #?

You can pretty much change anything, with the exception of injectors and cam, on your motor without affecting the computer. If you jump up to 24 lb injectors (or larger) the computer doesn't know it and is still operating them as if they were 19 lbs and you'll lose power. The biggest thing you have to worry about with a speeddensity set up is your cam. It must keep the correct vaccum for the SD to work correctly. That's the only phone number that I can find for Cam Motion and they don't have a website. They are located in California but I don't remember exactly where. I believe a custom flat tappet cam from them runs around $150 or so. Around $290-300 for a custom roller cam. Now Crane makes a pretty good flat tappet cam called the Lightning cam (made specifically for us GEN 1 guys). It used to basically be the Ford B351 cam. The part number for it is #444232. Comp Cams makes one, too, and it seems to be a bit better cam as well. The Comp Cams part number is #35-255-5 (grind # FW XE254H-14). Also you might check out this link which might have some more information you could use on your 351W. It's a GEN 1 Lightning FAQ page but it might help you figure some stuff out for your bronco.

With the mods above, I think I might need a little larger fuel injectors, do u know a place the can custom make them? When I get back home. I will give them a call. DO u want me to say u sent me, and what name to use?

The injectors are the same as the mustangs. You could just use 24 lb injectors from a stang and such, but you really aren't going to need them. the 19's will actually support about 400 hp or so before you start really leaning out. There's quite a few GEN 1's in the 12's on 19 lb injectors. If you do change injectors you'll have to get a chip burned for your computer.
Just tell them they were highly recommended by the National Lightning Owners Club. Good luck with the mods.

one last question, do u know if my crank is steel forged or not, and if I can run 9.8:1 or higher compression? I'm hoping to reuse my crank, but I'm buying all new pistons and piston push rods.

I would say that the crank is cast and the pistons are hypereutectic but I really don't know for sure. As far as compression that'll just depend on what pistons you use the heads you use, but yeah, you can go that high or even higher quite easily (just may have to use the expensive gas). That's if you want to stay N/A. If you are going to use a supercharger or turbo then you want to stay down more around high 8s to low 9s. Our Lightnings come stock with 8.8:1 compression which works great for supercharging/turbos.

I was thinking about a supercharger, but the tranny I have, I heard it won't work with. It's a c6 3-speed, and uses vaccuum to shift, I was told the with the supercharger, the tranny would act up.

Hmm....I'm not really sure on that, but I don't think that is correct. You're best bet for a good answer on that would be to go to the GEN 1 FORUM on the Lightning site and post the question in there. I know there's some guys in there that have used the C6's before and could help you out. Try that and see what you come up with. Lots of good help over there.
