Default Probs with BBK TB

All,
While cleaning a BBK T/B I think either me or my friend screwed up the spring action. I thought that the spring should slam it closed when you let off the throttle, correct? Right now, the spring doesn't do anything, which I think could potentially be a SERIOUS problem when I put it on. The spring is there, I just think it got bumped from where it was supposed to be in the cleaning process. Should it or should it not close automatically? Thanks for your time and, hopefully, wisdom.

Rob

PS- Slappy if you read this- it was all YOUR fault....

Yea, it should close but not completely.....very close though.

I had a problem with my BBK TB. The bar that runs up the butterfly valve and down to the linkage below busted. It broke where the two screws hold it onto the valve itself. My throttle was sticking bad afterwards. It may be your problem too. Just peak inside the TB and see if that bar is still in one piece. BTW, I never could get a hold of Edelbrock (the manufacturer of BBK TB's) to see if I could just order that piece to replace it. Guess I will have to buy a new one

I am about 30 minutes away from Rolla. Can ANYBODY answer the question: Is the throttle body butterfly supposed to stay closed b/c of the spring on the throttle linkage? I can't seem to see a spot where the spring hooks into, and right now the spring isn't hooked to anything on the t/b- it's just sitting there.

I think BBK makes edelbrock TB's, not the other way around.

Yes, it should spring closed. Shouldn tbe that difficult, just hook the spring up some how so it is forced closed.

it should just have a straight piece on the end of the spring that slides in somewhere, and yes it should close the butterfly.
