Default Ignition/eec probs in our aerostar

Hey folks, been a while, but I'm against the wall on this...
We've got a 92 Aerostar, U code 6 cyl, lots of probs, but this is the only one I haven't been able to sort out.
The things running like crap, in "limp mode" because its showing the spout's grounding out, thus eliminating any eec timing adjustment. (IIRC the actual codes are 212 and 998)
I pulled the whole underhood harness, opened and checked it, checked the connectors, had the TFI checked by autozone, cleared the codes, swapped the actual spout connector, and now I'm pretty well hung up.
I was going to have the computer checked too, but I'm embaressed to admit, I havent been able to find it Its not underdash, or in either of the kick panels, so....

any ideas?
J
