slammed 4x4 project
I was thinking about getting a ford ranger or an explorer and lowering it. I could beef up the motor if it was a 5.0 or put a 5.0 in the ranger. That way I could use low range 4x4 for short street races and that thing would launch hard as hell I'm sure. I saw the guys on Hot Rod TV do it with a dodge durango so I dn't see why I couldn't do it with an explorer.
any thoughts on this?? ------------------ 4 cyl converted to 302 comp cams cam, ported GT 40 heads, Edelbrock intake, holley carb Turbo coupe rear with 373's 4 inch cowl hood finally done after what seemed like forever!!!!! |

I am always the one to try new things also.
I had a 89 2wd Ext Cab Ranger that I put a 302/C4 in. I also had to change out the 7.5 rear to a 9inch. I actually broke the pinion shaft on the 7incher. The motor was a straight forward swap. All I did to the rear was spring perches. Umm, 4wd? I think that would be wild. The only thing is you would probibly need a Dana 44 front 9inch rear and a NP205 transfer case. This might last longer with serious hole shots. I dont know what type of transfer cases are in a Exploder. I bet it would not last very long though. |

I haven't seen a ranger or an explorer done like that but I have seen full size 4 wheel drives lowered, and having owned a 97 4WD I totally agree on the way those trucks launch in 4 wheel low.It would be pretty trick to blow away a mustang in a 4 x 4 ranger

that would be awesome. Go with the ranger they have kits to convert them over to 5.0s already so it would be eaiser than an explorer but u can by v8 explorer it is very expensive though
