Default Explorer AWD Problems

My wife has an awd 98 explorer. We bought it used last year with 33K miles on it and within 6 months the front drive shaft went bad in it. Now 4 months later its started making the same metal on metal grinding noises again this evening. We parked it and are going to have it towed in the morning. I checked Ford's website and there have been no recalls concerning the drivetrain, at least none I could find. Has anybody heard of any reoccuring problems with the awd systems and are there any websites I might check out to find more information? Any Explorer forums like this that you know of?
Thanks
