You really need to give a little more information on what are your sanding for, paint removal, after priming,do you want to go down to the base metal? If your going down to bare metal through paint and primer start off with 60 or 80 and when you get through the heavy stuff move up to 220 or higher you just want to minimize the amount of grooves you put into the bare metal.Give some more details on what your doing so we can understand what your trying to do.

Yes! Primer every inch of the surface to be painted. If you don't before too long all of the different surfaces you painted over will show through the paint. Get wwith you local paint supply store and ask them what they recommend. There are several primer/fillers available that are sprayed on really thick to fill all the tiny scratches. The primer will also seal the surface so that the reducers in the paint wont eat through and cause blemishes in the new paint. One thing I found out a while back is that the color of the primer has a direct effect on the color of the paint you are applying. Our 82 was painted over two different colors of primer and you can see a difference in the darkness of the red paint where the primers differ.

One thing to remember is chemical stripers sure save alot of time.I wouldn't use it in some of those hard to reach ares cause it's hard to get all the residue out but when your talking about large areas it sure helps.
