I STILL can't find the right drag radials.
I know. Another tire post, but bare with me.
For rhe last 2 or 3 weeks, I've been looking at BFG Comp T/A Drag Radials, Nitto 555R Drags, Mickey Thomsons, (even Hoosier) or whatever to put on my 15x8" Weld Wheels and no one has a simple size like 255/60/15 (or even 245/50/15, 245/60/15). BFG only have 235/60/15 or it jumps to 275/50/15. Nitto only got 2 sizes for 15" wheels, screw them. Now M/Ts got some, but I'm not sure about them. The one I was looking at was the street series Sportsman Pro 26x10.5x15 (Nylon, black, tubetype, 8/32 tread depth). That's the smallest size for the 15" rim and I think that is about an inch and a half too wide for the 8" wide rim. I'm not sure though. But I don't want tube type tires. What I need is a soft street legal tire (this is the only car I got) that will get me much better traction on the track than a regular street tire. Those tires are made of drag slick compound so I think it'll work. But, is it the same as drag radials like the ones from BFG and Nitto? (Probably not) Sounds like it's just a street tire made with a soft drag compound rubber. I met a guy at the track who was running those (26x10.5x15) but looked skinnier than 10.5. Anyway, he was hooking really well with those tires and if I can't get the right size drag radial, I'll just get those from M/T. This is frustrating. Shouldn't be so difficult!!! I don't like asking people for help until I've tried researching a problem for myself first. I have and I need help. Sorry for the length and details, but any and all help is very much appreciated. BTW, the best time I could get on my street tires w/ MUCH spinning and other small problems: 60 ft ---------- 2.137 330 ft --------- 5.905 1/8 mile ------- 9.063 @ 77.12 mph 1/4 mile ------- 14.142 @ 96.18 mph 60 ft ---------- 2.180 330 ft --------- 5.964 1/8 mile ------- 9.109 @ 77.63 mph 1/4 mile ------- 14.147 @ 97.06 mph I should be in the high 13s. I need help. Keep in mind that I want tires that I can ride on the road daily even if they only last 15,000 miles. Last thing. If there is anyone who has 15x8" rims and 275/50/15s on them, please post a photo or send me a photo of them and let me know if they bulge out too much or not. I appreciate the time you take to read this post and help out w/ your advice. That's Easy. If you want the best traction with a street legal tire run the 26x10.5x15 MT ET Streets!

Your combo is similar to mine! I am looking for drag radials too! but the sizes I want are not produced! I dont want a large tire that rubs and looks too big!I just want to drive and not worry about tubes. So I bought Pepboys 235-60-15 for my 10 hole wheels ( I also have 26-9 Hoosiers slicks on Welds) On a good day it will go 1.8260ft 1.90 average this is with a c-4 3500 stall 3.73gears I have used McCreary tires years ago and they worked great, but didnt handle well, with radials up front. With slicks 1.58 with stock axles, hope I helped some!

The 235/60-15 Drag radial is about the same size as the street tire 245/60-15. If you can get the 275/50-15 under the car (and you should be able to) they look mean and would be much better w/ good streetability. If not go to Pep Boys buy some 265/50-15 Futura's and be done w/ it. Lots of people report good 60ft times w/ low price. Good luck. Teddy Popee

I have the 275/50/15 BFG comp T/A drag radials on 15x8 inch rims and they are the best tire i have ever owned (other than my slicks). they poke out off the rim a little bit but driveability is awesome and they hook like crazy i ran consistant 1.7 60' times with them and i used to have a T5 and i would rev up to about 5 grand and dump the clutch and they wouldn't brake loose and that was also running a 8.10 which is a mid 12 second pass so if you don't care about having a tire that is a little bigger than the rim i suggest the BFG's.

Re: I STILL can't find the right drag radials.
For a daily driver, throw on the P275 Nitto's BFG's don't last very long at all and they're downright dangerous in the rain once they wear down.
I've seen MANY people with P275 tires on 8" rims. |

Re: I STILL can't find the right drag radials.
Another vote for the BFG 275/50 DR. My brother just bought a set and is running them on an 15x8 draglite.. they look good.. i run a BFG 295/50 under mine on a 15x8 rim and it looks good to.

Re: I STILL can't find the right drag radials.
Whats your e-mail and I'll send you pics of my MT ET Street Radials 275/50-15 on my 15x8 Weld's. I have them off the car so pics are easy to get from any angle.
They fit fine and look great on the car. Get the 275/50's you won't be disappointed. |
