Yes. You'll need a roll bar installed for any convertible car running below 14.0 seconds. It looks like from the 2000 NHRA rulebook (Section 4.10-4.11) that it has to be a five point rollbar.

Hey don't forget you'll also need a Snell 90 or newer helmet at 13.99 or quicker conv. as well.

The above is all true, BUT- if you really want to take it out and try it, then don't worry about it. They will probably tell you after your first pass (if you are quicker than 13.99) that next time you come you will need the proper safety equipment. I have a 4 point bar, and I do not have a helmet and i run all the time at my track-BUT I only broke into the high 13's, and it was at the end of the season. This year I will have a helmet, but I am not about to yank out my chrome car bar to put in a nasty 6 point unit. I say go for it, all they can do is ask you not to come back.

actually, NHRA requires a helmet for ANY convert.. no matter what ET.. tracks vary... but..better safe.. kinda sucks to spend the money and NOT race ;-)

I havenever heard or seen that rule that all vert's need a helmet to run- are you sure about this? Is it a new rule?
