Question advice needed

ok i put an aluminum grille & lower grille on my car, if i put my factory pony on it, it will be invisible, since it is plastic, how can i get it painted so it will show up, i'm not gonna spend a couple of hundred buck's to get it painted, but i know if i just spray paint it, bug's etc will just chip the paint off, anyone, help.

Sand it real well with a light light paper. Spray it. Then add about 3 or 4 coats of clear coat. Pretty simple. Send it to me and I can get it done for you. Ex-painter/body man.

Just a thought, but wouldn't you want some sort of primer on there too? I would think with just sanding that the paint will begin to flake off in a year or so without a primer.

The sanding will give an etched edge for the primer to adhere to, then the paint can adhere to the primer.

On plastic that's been lightly sanded it wouldn't be needed. The primer is used to provide a grip for the paint and cover flaws. With plastic there will be enough of a grip on the roughened surface to hold the paint.

Good enough explanation for me, although when I sanded and painted my door handles, the paint came off within a year. I then primed and painted them and haven't had any problems since. Just something to think about I guess.

When I paint door handles and like trim they make special paints just for that reason. Used it in the shop and my mom's Kia Sportage. Never had a problem.

I am sure you were using better products than me. I was using just the black trim paint available at any auto parts store. Not exactly high grade stuff, but the primer does help that product. Guess I should have clarified that before.

I got a painted Bowtie emblem you can put there. That way you don't have to mess up the horse

Another problem with primer is that it from a spray can it's thick. On something small and detailed like the horse emblem it would fill in the smaller details.
Just make sure the pony has been sanded completely. If a spot is left smooth the paint won't stick there and will eventually start to peel up from that spot.
