Angry grrr...filling up my gas tank! help?

It seems that 75% of the time when i go to fill up the gas tank in my car it acts "full"...the pump will go for a mere .50 or w/e and click its "full"...of ocurse its not full...its the pump's auto shutoff...but it happens almost everytime i go to tank up! i thought maybe there was an air pocket at first...but now its continued too long....hopefully this isnt a "crazy" problem and it has an easy answer ....

thanks for any info...

Do you squarely put the nozzle around the filler neck. If it's one of the "sealed" nozzles with the accordian thing at the end of the handle, it'll tend to do that. Is it at the same gas station or does it happen at alot of stations?

Gee, thanks. LOL. Out here, we don't have those seal tubes on the nozzles any more, but that same problem still happens. I know that in the F series trucks, there is an anti siphon valve inside the filler tube, and sometimes it prevents the fuel from draining into the tank as quickly as it should. I'm not sure what the solution is, but I'll look into it for you. When ever I have that problem, I just jump on the bumper a couple of times, and that seems to solve the problem. LOL.

Take care,
~Chris

Something else you could try is next time you go to fill up, disconnect the hose from the evap canister that goes to the gas tank, and see if that makes a difference. You could also apply compressed air to it, when the gas cap is off, and make sure there are no obstructions.

Take care,
~Chris

It is the fuel vapor recovery system doing it's job badly. When you put it in next time, make sure that there is a little opening so the vapors can get out. Otherwise it will click you off.. what a pain...
