Default 90 LX electrical problems.

Well i know nobodody likes to deal with electrical problems and i'am definitley one of them. But as of recently my dash lights, and brake lights stopped working(brake lights come on when you apply pressure to the brake but when you let off there are no lights).

I have tested the fuses with a test light, and all seem to check out fine. I really hope i dont have a short somewhere as i no nothing about wiring. She was sitting in the garage for about 2 weeks or so and finally decided to stretch her legs and take her out on the road and as soon as darkness fell i switched the lights on and i have headlights but i have no brake lights, or dash lights at all (even around the A/C, Heater controls) and was just wondering what do you guys think is the problem?

i had a similar problem and it turned out a mouse had chewed a wire from the fuse box to the lights. They actually chewed a few more than that. like the fuel pump wires and the ignition wires. I had to have terminix come bomb the car.

Check your fusible links and all grounds. After that, check to see if power is even reaching the items effected: brake light switch, brake lights, dash lights, etc. Lack of ground connection is the usual culprit, however. If you can't find the problem, I'd suggest asking around for shops that do electrical work exclusively. Try asking knowledgable people at auto parts retailers. They usually at least have commercial accounts that specialize in areas like these.

Having said that, I'm moving this thread where it belongs.

I had a similar problem with my 91 LX notch. Ended up being a short in my lisence plate light harness. The wire came out of the loom, moved enough and exposed itselt and shorted on my trunk brackets. I ended up with a complete melt down behind the dash. I had smoke pouring out everywhere after work one night. Check everywhere you can!
