Unhappy factory Anti-theft Bypass

I have a '96 GT and i am having problems with anti-theft system (the car wont start, someone told me it is the computer chip in the key/ ignition that allows the car to start. is there away to by pass that, i really do not need it. it just a pain. The dealer wants alot of $$ to change/or fix.!!
if anyone can help.
