Why would you want to do that? I have the Mach 460 in my car disabled. I replaced the 6 disc in dash with aftermarket deck and the front mids and highs with Diamond Hex. The rear amps and speakers are unplugged and just in the way, I would have taken them out but it's a pain.

The speakers are cheap paper cone and the amps are under powered. It would be worth your time to save up and get good after market equitment. Even low end pioneer 4x6's sound better than the factory stuff.

Just my opinion though...

The reason I was thinking about doing it is because I dnt know much about speakers and my brothers got the mach 460 in his mustang. All I listen to is metal so I dnt need subs, and the mach has just the right amount of bass for rock. Ill start looking into other stuff, I just dont know much about it.....thanks.

It's all about what you want to do I guess. I was just thinking that if you were going to put any work into it you might as well make it sound nice. I have to offer some word of advice. If you’re going to use the Mach 460 you will need the factory deck. Any attempt to plug an aftermarket deck into the system will result in clipping and over all bad sound. At the time I was working on my system there was no converter harness available, there might be one now.

As far as audio systems go, they don't to be complicated, they can be, but they don't have to be. It's more about how much you want to spend and what your trying to accomplish. You said you listen to metal right? Two things, one subs make all the difference from country to metal to rap to classical. There is no substitute for subs. If you’re worried about the amps and wiring go with one of the pre-packaged deals from bazooka or MTX. JL has some nice boxes for mustangs as well. These systems have the amp already built in. You just stick it in your trunk and run power + RCA cables.

The other think you didn't mention was highs. The cars that come stock with 460 system have a pod in the corner of the window for the tweeter. I don't recall seeing this on older mustangs. This part is very important. Nothing sounds better than separated mids and highs. The more money you spend on these the better they sound. However the more money you spend the more power they require. Even a basic set of separates requires a medium sized amp. (The 460 amp are not good!)

Sorry if I came off rude or sarcastic in my first message. I just couldn't think of any reason someone would want to install a 460 system. Mustangs are my new and second hobby. Car audio is my first and has been for over eight years. If you need any help or have any questions about product installations or recommendations please feel free to ask. I would offer to help but there is a good chance you’re not in the metro D.C. area.

Fox's have 3.5" speakers in the dash, not .5" tweeters.

I agree with Jason1320 100%

oooo yea youre right, we had a 89 4 banger that my bro put a system in. Now that i think about it we had to cut out a frame to fit the .5 inch tweeters that he bought. that was like 4 years ago so i forgot all about it.
