VIN question on 69 Mach 1
I'm looking at buying a 69 mach 1 and before I do, I just want to make sure it's a real mach 1. The VIN is 9F02M20447. I don't have the door tag info and I can't seem to find any resources that can tell me if it's a Mach 1 or not without both the VIN and the door tag info. If anyone can help, please do.
Thanks, Dave |

I'll go out on a limb and say probably. It originally came with a 351W 4v.
Take care, ~Chris

I'm not sure if this applies to other years, but on a 73, there is nothing in the VIN code that indicates whether it's a Mach. There's a digit in there to indicate fastback, but that's not exactly hard to tell.
The only place on my car where the Mach status is indicated is on the door tag, so that may apply to you too. If course it's possible that things were totally different in '69.

I think you're right. All I can find from the VIN is that it's a 69 fastback, made in Dearborn, MI, and came with a 351W. I guess I'll just have to try and get the doortag. Thanks guys.

The doortag will tell alot more about the specifics of it when it came from the assembly line. but that vin number you posted came with these results: http://www.fomoco.com/index.asp?Dept...s&Tool=Decoded
model year: 1969 built at: Dearborn (Dearborn, MI) bodystyle: SportsRoof engine: 351 CID - 4V "Windsor" unit consecutive unit #: 20447

Without the data plateit's tuff to tell. In 69 it was on the rear of the drivers door, but if the doo was changed and they didn't transfer the tags , you're screwed. The body serial code 02 says ti's just a sportsroof or fast back. Not necessarily a Mach1. Do some detctive work, has it already been restored? If not, is the engine origional, 351W-4v, what about the seats, mach1's had there own deluxe style seats. Also hasit been painted, the Mach1's came with flat black on the hood.
If it's already restored, the guy could have just changed everything to make it look like a Mach1. But without the door tag, dont pay extra for it. If it's beat up chances are he didn't go out and buy beat up deluxe seats and put them in just to get an extra couple hundred. Good luck |

You can have www.martiauto.com make you up a set of door tags for $30.00. They will do a complete search on your cars vin, and will be able to tell if it is a MACH. Does it have the MACH int.

Didn't Mach's have the analog clock? I believe they and mabe the G code cars did. I know it wasn't a base thing.

The Sportsroof option is the Mach 1.
I believe all Mach 1's had the woodgrain interior. Your engine is a M-Code engine which is the 351-4bbl like Chris said.

All Mach1's are sprotsroofs/fastbacks. Not all sprotsroofs/fastbacks are Mach1's. Can't speak to other years, but 72 has a different designation in the vin.
