2001 GT Mach 460 sound system
I was thinking about upgrading my stock head unit to the mach 460. Can that one play mp3's? Does just a head swap sound feasable (using the amps spks and wiring from the regular sound system). Hopefully it will be just plug n play.
Thanks! |
I'm pretty sure it won't be plug and play, the perfomance stereos usually are quite different from stock as far as connections. The mach 460 uses external amps which you would have to get. It would most likely be cheaper and easier to get an aftermaket head and a 5 channel amp. It is the Mach MP3 that plays the mp3's so if you do try it, make sure you find out if it's the right one.
Hope that helps. |
i see
I got an amp, too bad it can't use the stock amps :(

security thru obscurity
oops.
no i have the regular cd player, but i do have a 500 watt 2 chan amp, its not the mach 460 amp tho. trying to find a mach mp3 player now :) |
You might end up paying more for the Mach mp3 than for a new head unit with mp3 capability, if you bought a new one you could hook your amp up to the preamp outs, and use the head to drive the rest of the speakers.
With the mach mp3, the only way to use an amp would be to lose your back speakers. Here are some: https://www.onlinecarstereo.com/cara...egory.asp?c=19 Check them out I looked around for any of the Mach Mp3's, no luck, they will probably be hard to find since the people who got them, paid extra for them so likely they will keep them. |
new stereo
so i will have to end up riping out the stock ford amps if i want to replace the head unit? eeeeeeeeeek
thanks for all the help |
