The Rockford Fosgate. High Quality???

I've had these two 3.5" RF 2-channel speakers for the front of my car for about 2 to 3 years. One day when I was just about to park my car, the one on the driver's side starts smoking. I shut off the car and unhook the speaker and go about getting to class on time.

Didnt' really hear a big difference, but lately sounds like it's not even on, so I pull it out and examine it and the tweeter is fine, but the (I guess you'd call it) mid range cone seems messed up cause no sound from it at all. The wire that goes from the + and - inputs on the speaker, one of them looks like it has melted away and left a small slit-like hole in the cone where it use to be soldered onto the cone. Will patching that hole with solder reconnect the wires and fix the problem? I keep all my receipts but can't yet find the stinking RF one.

Any help is appreciated.

It sounds suspiciously like they might have been over-powered and they got too hot. Being as they are RF's that seems pretty odd. You should be able to carefully solder it back together and it should work, but I might just take it back to the manufacture. Especially if you haven't done anything crazy with your system and can show them how you had it hooked up. It sounds like it might not be performing to the specs......which warrants at least a replacement at any reputable shop.
