Post Car is now backfiring after intake install

I just installed a 94 Cobra lower and 97 Explorer upper in my 1990GT. It all went pretty smooth except I moved the act sensor to the intake inlet hose since I didn't have a tap. I think when I put the distributor back in I might have moved it a bit. I don't see any leaks anywhere. I do smell alot of gas too, any ideas?

Thanks,
Leo

Sounds like you either stabbed the distributor wrong or got a couple of the spark plug wires crossed up. Firing order is 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8. Try restabbing the distributor; bring the engine to TDC on #1 (put your thumb over the spark plug hole to make sure you're on the compression stroke) and restab the distributor so that the rotor is at 12 o'clock (or just between 12 and 1) with the TFI module at about 30 off the centerline of the engine. Start with the rotor at about 11 as you insert it so that when it seats in the distributor gear its pulled towards and slightly past 12 o'clock.

In terms of smelling fuel- did you replace the O rings on each injector? Did you oil them before install? Did you replace the O rings on the fuel pressure regulator? Is it leaking? These are all things to check.

Did you check your timing???

It definitely sounds like your distributor is in their wrong...

You don't say anything in your post about checking the timing after the install...you do realize this is a crutial step in the process, right?

You can't just guess at it by the way it looks
