Question Trouble with Ampand 12" sub, need some help!

I've installed a new Pioneer deck into the wife's 97 Crapolier. It works fine. Now I go to install a Sony Amp and 12" sound stream sub and I'm having problems. Here's what I have:

Here's some background

The system was originally powered by an Alpine 80W amp. I removed the alpine and replaced it with a MONO 1000W@1 ohm amp.

The original power lead was all 8 gauge. I moved the amp and I am using 6 gauge wire. This is why there is a difference in the gauge of the wire. The instuctions call for 4 gauge, but I was told 8 gauge was minimum.

Problem

The deck works just fine.

If I hook up the amp with no sound the power light comes on and no diagnostic lights come on. This is with the sub disconnected.

If I connect the sub, weather there is music or not, there is only a loud fog horn like sound. When I had a smaller (and cheaper) fuse in the system it would blow the fuse. I now have an 80 AMP fuse (which is what is called for). I just yank the wires or disconnect the face plate before the fuse blows.

I measured the resistance across the speaker terminals on the sub box and it measures 1.6 ohms. The sub is a 12" sound stream sub, which if memory serves me right (this was almost 8 years ago) the sub was a 600W sub.

Can anyone help me? I'm going to disconnect everything and re-try the alpine amp, but if you see any major short comings with the circut above please feel free to make some suggestions.

Thanks.

How do you have the 12v lead spliced? You are not showing any RCA's in the schematic. Dumb question, but, they are there right? Check to make sure you have a good ground, no paint, god tight connection, ect. You are also not showing a remote wire. I've never tried it, but I don't think the amp will even turn on without it.

Try unplugging the RCA'a from the amp and turning it on. If nothing, there is probably a problem in the deck itself. If that does nothing, try a different amp. If nothing, try a differend seaker. Eliminate options one at a time. Also, if I'm not mistaken, 1.6 ohms is really low. Most setups are 2ohm or 4ohm. I'd say try a different speaker.
I havea 300w amp that used to roduce a low rumble when turned on. I swapped out amps and never had another problem.

That is about the only thing I can tell you. Good luck with it.

i'd say something screwy with the wiring from the amp to the sub box .... I don't know much about these new sound systems but when you add the sub box and it blows a 80 amp fuse, that means you're blowing the fuse through the output stage of an amp and they are usually way to isolated from the power circuit to do that, especially an 80 amp fuse.
Is that strictly amp output going to the sub box or is there an amp or something in the sub box that requires direct power ??

Answers to a couple questions:

1. Yes there are RCA's from the Deck to the AMP. I just forgot to include them

2. I also forgot the remote wire. The AMP will not power up with out it.

3. The Deck is brand new, I just bought it last night.

4. The AMP's sole purpose in life is to power that sub box.

NEW INFO:

I've connected the sub to my home system, and it works fine, so the Sub is good.

I swaped in the Alpine AMP and Now I can't get anthing out of the SUB?!?! I know the sub is good and this amp was working before?

I've checked all the wiring to the AMP, it's all solid. Ground is good.

I checked the voltage at the amp, and it is the same as battery, 12-12.5V

I tried to check the speaker leads, but there was no power or voltage

Could it be a connection from the amp to the speaker? It is just a section of speaker wire. I checked it over but now it is dark.

Dude...you've got me confused....not a easy thing to do.

Give me a day or so...I'll see if I can get this worked out for you.

I'm gonna link this over to elitecaraudio.com, they should be able to help you figure your problem out.

IMO, I think it's the wiring. Double check your ground and that your RCA's are in good working order. Make sure the power wire is properly attached to the battery terminal. Also, trace it's path to make sure that there are not shorts or melted insulation.

If your search turns up nothing I would suggest taking the amp out and doing a temporary install outside the car using different wiring. If the amp works you know you've got a problem with your wiring, if the amp still doesn't work, then we'll know that your amp is to blame. Do these tests and we'll go from there.

I could not get anything to work, so I disconnected the amp. I was going to connect the amp near the battery and use a small new length of speaker wire to see what I could find out. Unfortunately there is 4 inches of snow on my driveway and it's still snowing! I'm hoping to get the test done this week.

LOL, smarty pants.

ok, I hooked everything up and got the same problem. I took pictures of everything, I just have to post them and you can see what I did. But basically I set up the AMP reight next to the front of the car and it still make the fog horn sound. I put the car back together and I'll probably take the AMP back. I'll post the pictures tonight after work.

Well baring further proof you've got one of two problems.

1) your RCA's are toast
2) your amp is FUBAR

It made no difference weather the RCA's were even plugged in to not.

I think the AMP is FUBAR

Took it back. Now I'll shop for this JBL amp you're recommending.

Thanks!

I'd suggest a JBL BP 300x1 for a single 12". Or you could get a 600x1 if you thought you needed it.

I'd suggest getting one from Scala1 off of E-bay. That's where I got my amp. It's $125 for a 300x1 or $180 for 600x1

All I'd need would be the 300X1.

Thanks again!

Something like this........http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...item=802810098

Scala1 one is legit. Both myself and MidNitBlu5.0 have ordered from him.
