Rear Speaker options for 90 LX Notch???
I just got a nice Kenwood head unit for my 90 LX Kx 516 something with the flip face etc. Sounds the balls, but I'm gonna have to start upgrading the rest of the system.
My notch came with the premium sound package 6 speakers and amp. The radio made no sound when I got the car. To make a long story short the premium amp was dead and I had to bypass it to even wire up a new head unit. Are there any wire harness adapters to bypass the factory amp cleanly, I managed to do it myself but the bypass I made out of the amp imputs is ugly. Next question, I want to upgrade all the speakers, the fronts are no brainers, but the 5x7 rears are crappy. All the aftermarket ones I have found arn't too impressive. What have some of you done in the rear of the Fox body Notch backs?? I'm installing a small Sony amp for the rears but I am using a 200 amp install kit so I can upgrade to some real power. But .. I need real speakers back there first!!!!!!! Did you try Crutchfields for 5X7 replacments? What about opening it up for 6X9's?

I'll check Crutchfields for some 5x7, I have considered cutting in some 6x9 but wanted to hear from some other notch owners for ideas first, plus I have the rear shoulder belts to contend with too.

i cut an opening in the top to fit my kenwood 6x9's. i also made a custom spacer (about 1/2 inch) to fit between the speaker and the rear deck. looks good, and the 6x9's sound better too. i also re-wired my whole car with better wire. it was pretty easy, just ran the wire under the carpet to the rear. u could do that to bypass the pre amp.
