Wiring alternator
I am in the middle of upgrading my alternator to a 3G model. I have ran new 4 gauge wire from it to the starter soleniod with a fuse in-line.
My question is, can I disconnect the orginal wire thats on the starter soleniod, and the other end form the alternator, and still have everything function properly? I am not sure if the car takes voltage readings from that wire, or if the voltmeter uses it. Someone please help me out.

I would leave it on. That is what I did to mine. You did cut the plug off and used eye-lets on the cut wires. These 2 wires(black and orange i think) are what goes over to the starter soleniod. When I get home, I will try to take a picture.

I disconnected thoose two wires. I did do this upgrade in last year, and used all of the stock wiring, but my stereo and other devices drew more amps then the stock 10 gauge could handle, so now I am using 4 guage instead. I will take some pics in a few minutes, I am just finishing up now.

alternator... I sealed off the two original wires, and disconnected the other end form the solenoid. Should i reconnect the wire at the starter soleniod?

ok, I just started the car with both ends of the original wire disconected. The alternator was not charging so I am assuming the stator wire gets its power form the original wire. I reconnected it on the soleniod, and left the other end disconnected. Now thev volt meter reads around 14 volts so the alternator is now charging. Can someone please confirm this is the right way to do it? I am also replacing the fuse link with some 10 gauge since it is falling apart. Thanks.
