installing an aftermarket cr player 90 lx
Does anyone if the 90 stangs had speakers that were individually grounded? I installed an aftermarket cd in dash, and after not being able to figure out why it would not work, a buddy said that he thought they were grounded at the speaker. After unhooking the grounds at the new harness, it now works.
I used an aftermarket installation harness to do the swap. Now I am dealing with the stupid popping (1 loud one) noise when the radio first turns on. I have installed many players with little to no problems.....this one is a pain for some reason. Am I missing something? Ryan

The speakers in your car are probably grounded at the speaker. When I tried to put an aftermarket system in my old 89 LX i found that the speakers were grounded to the body of the car right at the speaker, so only one wire was going to the speaker. Its a wierd set up. Your best bet is to run new wires from your aftermarket head unit. Even replace the ford speakers while you're at it.

It gets even better. The cd player sounds like the mute button is turned on, but the mute is turned off. Turn the player over to radio and it rocks out. I am outta guesses on that one, so I am about to take the thing to a radio shop.

It has something to do with that amplifier, I tested the cd player and it is fine. Took a break with the installing, but the amp is being yanked out when I do it.

put a 1k resistor on the turn on lead for your amp. When your amp does that loud pop, it is more than likely going into safe mode. The resistor will allow your power to slowly turn on your amp without the pop and should prevent your amp from going to safe mode.

What year is it? The speakers are not grounded. you are going through a stock amplifier though. Tell me the year & I can tell you how to properly wire it.

Rhetorical question for you "skip" . My main point is Those speakers are not grounded.
I'll make it easier for ya next time. I don't mind posting on old threads that did not get good info yet.
