Default Here is how to remove a/c, smog, and tensioner w/ no brackets

First I do not want to take credit for this...... I got this from (niks4082fst4u) on Corral.. I am just posting the pic so everyone can see how it is routed. Oh and the belt size I used (after 3 trips to NAPA is a 060703) which is 70-3/4".....

What I did was remove both alternator bolts and loosened the two PS nuts (but did not remove) and then route the belt, install the two alternator bolts (Do not tighten yet), now go tighten the PS nuts. and then go back and pullback on the alternator a little and tighten up...THATS IT!!!!!Your done!!

That is exactly how mine is ran. Its ok for a track only car but I wouldnt trust it on an everyday driver.

Why not???

Does a not working AC pump and a smog pump robs the engine of power???

And, to delete power steering, what needs to be done?

I'm a little confused. It's ok for a car that's driven at WOT everytime it's driven, but not for a car that's driven under normal conditions? Please clarify this for me.

I tow my car to the track so if it breaks its no big deal. I wouldnt trust that set-up for a daily commute over time the belt will get looser and looser without a tensioner.

But thats just me,

So what if you tighten the belt and then put the tensioner on it, will it hit the belt on the other side of the altenater? I'm just trying to get ideas on cheaper ways to eliminate the a/c and smog pump. I have a truck that I usually drive, but from time to time, I drive my car to work (about 30 min one way) so I don't want to have to worry about it. Thanks.

Yeah if you put the tensioner on it like that it will make the belt touch its self.

I have been running mine like that for over a year and 150+ trips down the track. So far no problems.

Ive got a trick that eliminates the p/s too but it uses the factory tensioner and you have to change to a forward rotation water pump.....I got my water pump at autozone for 16$$.

I don't get hte whole fuss with the loss of the tensioner. I can swear when i used to hang around my dads auto shop that many a time did we use a pry bar on the alternator to tighten the belt, and then just tightened down the alternator bolts. I remember doing this to to dune buggy's, cars, trucks, just about everything. As long as you keep an eye on it, it should be fine. Everytime you check your oil just put a little pressure on the belt to see if its still tight.

Well, What erveryone is re-ferring to is.. Back in the day we used V belts and there were slotted brackets to allow tightening in the PS pumps and Alternators. The purpose of the tensioner is to eliminate having to ever have to tighten a loose belt..

Man I cant believe I said "back in the Day" Makes me feel OLD!!!
