Default Speaker Recomendations...

I just got a new HU installed in my '95 Stang GT Vert and I now need to replace a blown speaker in the drivers side door. Obviously I'll be replacing both door speakers but I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to the brand, etc. to use.

TIA.

Nick

Default Spears....

Install Rockford Fausgates!! They are clean, loud and literally no distortion. A bit pricey, but worth every cent.

It depends on what money you have to spend. If you have a large budget go for some Focal Polyglass' but you will need a nice amp to power them.

I have Alpine type R 6.5" components in my car powered by a JBL P80.4 and they sound pretty damn good. I payed about 300 bucks for the amp and the speakers.

Nick is correct, it all depends on how much money you wanna spend. Are you looking for just a replacement set of coxials or are you looking to go with a componet set? Planning on using a amp to power them? What's your budget? Answer me these questions and I can help you much more.

For coxials, I really like the Alpine Type R series, and the Infinitty Kappa's are also very good.

For componets, I suggest Focals. MB quart's are also a good choice. On the cheaper side Kappa's and Type R's are also good componets.

It all depends on what you wanna spend. You may not want to drop the dough on a set of Focals, you may only want a set of Pioneers. It all depends on what you want and your budget.

Also make sure you find somewhere to listen to the speakers. People say the MB Quarts are better than the Alpines, but i liked the way the Alpines sounded better than the MB Quarts so i bought the Alpines.

Anyone can tell you speakers are good but it all comes down to what you like.

You are correct. Some people don't like the bright, brash sound of Quarts, some do. I much rather prefer the sound of Focals......I just wish I could afford some

As for mids and tweeters I have to say go for MB Quart and for subs JL Audio. I have used Rockford Fosgate, JBL, Polk, Kicker, MTX, Soundstream, PPI, Dynaudio, Pioneer, Alpine before and must say I like the MB Quart/JL combo the best. I have four 5 1/4 Quart mids, four 1in titanium tweeters, three JL Audio 10w6, three PPI amps, Audio Control crossover, Clarion Pro Audio head unit and it sounds crystal clear and can really thump. Had it in the car for going on 6 years without one problem. Only thing I would do different is get the 6 1/2s over the 5 1/4s.

just out of curiosity why do you hate JL Audio? I used to be a car stereo installer and competed in IASCA. I have dealt with a lot of audio equipment over the years and for the price it would be hard to beat the sound quality and sytem flexibility of JL. I admit the W7s are nice but overkill in my book. Why spend that kind of money when you can get equal quality and spl out of the W3 or W6 series. Actually a lot of the sound is in the enclosure design. I have taken a $30 MCM electronics 12" sub in a custon designed bandpass enclosure and kicked two Rockford Fosgate Pro 12" subs butt and those subs cost over $700 for the pair. It's all in the tune, just like with motors. A 130db of clear bass out of a single $30 sub and a 300watt amp is not bad in my book.

A bud of mine had a bad experiance with a set of W3's..........plus the fact that they cost too much for what you get, IMO.

The W7 is a good speaker, but it's a shitload of money, I could have 2 IDQMax's for that price.

You can buy Image Dynamics subs for cheaper than JL and they are MUCH better than JL

Default New Head Unit

Okay, I'm going to put a Panasonic 3500 head unit into my 94 Mustang GT Conv. My concern is that this unit has 3 preamp outlets. And the mach 460 has 3 amps as stock. But i also am putting in 2 Subwoofers and an additional amp to power them. Will all the amps be able to be used or are the stock amps not put into the preamp outlets. ANY replies are appreciated.

I'm sorry, but no. The stock Mach amps won't plug into the HU. However you can buy a line adaptor and that will let you plug you HU into your stock harness and use the stock amps. I believe it is about $95 bucks.

P.S. This is purely my opinion as a audiophite, but the stock amps stuck. They're THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) is right up there with Pile, Crunch, Jensen, etc. In other words.......they suck. I would just replace the spakers with aftermarket ones, and yank the stock amps. Then just run the speakers off your HU, or if you want, add a 4-channel amp. You will be much happier with the sound if you go this route.
