Default throttle cable removal on an 88 lx 5.0

I bought a bbk throttle body for my 1988 LX 5.0 mustang. I can't figure out how to get the throttle cable off of the old throttle body. This thing is made of plastic and looks very easy to break. The cruise control cable just popped off but the throttle cable goes through a nylon groumet and I"m afraid to try prying it off. There seems to be a piece that allows you to adjust the length of the cable under where the cable attaches via a peg to the groumet. I'm sure a lot of you guys have replaced throttle bodys and this must be fairly simple but I"m stumped. If anyone can tell me how to remove this cable I'd appreciate it. Thanks

Default throttle cable

Were you able to pop the end of the throttle cable off of the little ball end that hangs down under the throttle body? Just take a flat head screw driver and give it a little whack with your hand...should pop right off. Not sure what grommet you are reffering to? On my '90GT there is a metal plate that the cable is attached to which is just held onto the T/B or EGR (sorry, not sure which one) with 2 small 3/8 size bolts.

are you talking about an automatic. if so then the adjustment you are refering to is the trans kickdown. and it would be hard to remove because there is a snapring retaing it. Remove that and you're good to go.

Default Automatic trans Kick down cable 88 5.0 lx

Simi Stang and Stng87 thanks for replies. I"ve been away for a few days. Yes this is an automatic. I think Stng87 is right this is the Kickdown cable for the Auto trans. The other cable popped off a little ball just like Simi Stang described. I don't see any snap ring did they make different cables?

The cable that is closest to the drivers side is your throttle cable, and you already have it removed.

The other cable is called the Throttle Valve(TV) and you must NOT adjust this cable because you will most likely fry your AOD if it is mis-adjusted. Don't try adjusting it to get firmer shifts.

It will pop out of the grommet with just a little force from a flathead screwdriver. Then your new TB should already have the rubber grommet in place. Just pop it in the new one and you're all set.

Default tv cable removal

Thanks fiveohpatrol and everyone else who responded to my post. It looked like there was no other way for it to come off, but I didn't want to break it. It's made of plastic. I"ll try it tonight.C3racer
