Post GTP Gets smoked

Okay I get a light with a black GTP I look over and it had deep tinted windows but I could make out the figure of a attractive women with a ponytail driving and I start thinking she is going to try and race me so the light goes green and sure enough she is off so I nail it and spin shift to second and spinning hard (have comp VR4's on for winter) but staying even then I hook as I shift to 3rd and pull away hard and we pull onto the interstate and she nails it first and I drop to third even with the momentum she could not get around me and I proced to pull four or five cars on her by mid 4th I then let off and she flys by doing like 130+ (I thought those had a speed limiter). I caught back up when traffic slowed her down and we played around several more times with me not even really having to try.

Good Kill.

I think that 130mph is the governed top speed. I smacked my buddies GTP last summer. It kinda sucked on the highway!

Way to go, sedanman!

I smoked one of those back in November - except this GTP was black with borla exhaust (two polished tips on each side - looked good) and a license plate that read:: EATON8 or something like that.

Anywho, great race - sometimes those GTP owners think they have a V8 under the hood - guess not this time!

PS - For any of those interested, I visit gp-owners.com from time to time and find some of the "kill" stories very amusing. All in all it is a decent site, but sometimes the stories can get a bit fishy.

Also, not sure how many of you remember "Weapon_R" from this site (Type R integra guy) but he posts on gp-owners quite a bit.

About a year ago, I lined up against a Buick Regal with that same 240 hp SC'ed engine. He had a smaller SC pulley and some modified exhaust. I got him by at least 6 lengths. He ran 14.78 and I ran a 14.17. I bet the GTP's are similar.

Nice KILL...

I got screwed (lost a race) against one heavily modified b*tch GTP last summer...

I now watch to see if there are are foil intakes on the hood... The guy was saying high 12s for that GTP.

haha I hope you beat a GTP. Road and Track tested out at 15.7. My stock GT will smoke that no prob. Good kill though I wish I had even that kind of action around here. lol

Well I will just keep light em up and see if I get some attention.

Question

I think the 15.7 was NOT the supercharged version. I think the GTP runs like a high and maybe a mid 14.

Last year at the Pontiac nationals at Norwalk I saw a stock looking GTP (stock except for the nitrous purging out through the nose of the car) that ran a 12.10 on street tires and through mufflers. I was very impressed to say the least.

I think stock GTP's do run 15's, probably low 15's. Aren't these fairly heavy, with automatics?

Did you see the GNX concepts. They look okay, but they're 4 door. They do have the GTP's engine.

A good friend of mine has a 2000 Grand Prix GT (not supercharged) with a 3.8L V6 with 200 HP. His best track time to date was a 15.66 @ 87 mph.

From what I've seen and read, the GTPs run low 15's stock. With a pulley upgrade on the supercharger, a cold-air induction kit and free flowing exhaust will put these cars into the low 14's @ about 100+/- mph. Not too shabby for a heavy sedan.

Good kill...with your 1/4 mile times you shouldn't have too many GTPs giving you a hard time.

As a recent convert to a Regal GS(supercharged), I can tell you that is is definately quicker than my 95 GT Automatic Convertible. I suspect my GT ran mid 15s and the Buick runs low 15s. They are however, very easy to drive fast. The automatic is pretty good, with a somewhat loose converter. I have beat stock 96-98 GTs, but as far as Mustangs, thats as far as I would go. Traction is a definate problem, even with the traction control.

In case your wondering, I had to sell the Stang since the car seats for my new twin boys would not fit in the back. I plan on getting a 92-93 Stang as a project car pretty soon though.

Take care,
Dave

Go to my buddy's site. It will explain the car and clear up any misconceptions that these cars are grocery getters. He'll be hitting 13's this spring and has spent very little money on mods. Wish we could all say that.
