What to do about convertible top?
I have just bought a 87 Mustang LX 4 cyl. Convertible for a great price ($100). It needed very little engine work at all, but the rear window on the top has come out of the seam at the lower portion. Can I replace the rear window section or do I need a new top. The top is in good condition, no leaks or anything. I also wanted to know if I can do this myself.
I also had a question about my power windows and mirrors. The only direction the mirrors move is to the left, all other controls for the mirrors don't work. The window on the drivers side and the rear small window dips out of alignment when lowered. How can I fix this? Finally, the doors need adjusting, but I don't know how to do this. The passenger door needs to be lifted in order to shut and the drivers door doesn't stay closed at all; you have to push it in to close it. My dad said that there was a little rust on the door hinges; might these need replacement? As always, any suggestions are welcome. Thanks. |

Re: What to do about convertible top?
You got an AMAZING deal!! Is the window glass or plastic? I have an 89 4cyl vert, and it came with no rear window. I needed to get a back window but I didnt have enough for the whole top, so I bought a glass window and my dad and i decided to try to put it in ourselves. If you notice(this is for glass windows, i dont know if its diff for plastic), there is a piece of fabric with with a zipper under one of the bars for the vert frame, the other half of the zipper is connected ot a piece of fabric surrounding the window itself. What we did was just unzipped the window from the fabric, unbloted the bar from the other end, and took out all the staples stapling the window to the bar. That part was very simple, the only glitch in our plan was that the zippers from the old and new top didnt match up, it was like two sides without the zipper itself rather than one of each. So we kindof forced it to zipper togteher as a temporary thing till I get a new top. I don't think thats necessarily the best thing to do, but maybe it would work better for you.
Also I have the SAME mirror problem, I have bought a new switch and everything, and we don't think its the switch thats the problem cuz that didnt do any good. I hope some1 has the answer to that problem! |
