Welding On Axel Tubes Question........
I HAVE AN ARC WELDER AN IM USING 6011 ELECTRODES BUT ITS HARD TO GET STARTED ONLY ON THE AXEL TUBES ANY THING ELSE NO PROBLEMS.......... HOW, AND WHATS THE BEST WAY TO WELD THEM , OR ANY THING TO THE REAR END.........

Not enough heat! What kind of an arc welder is it? 110V or 220V. Axle tubes need alot of amps. That's thick steel. I prefer MIG or flux core on rear axle housings. I welded up a coil over suspension on our Plymouth with a 220V Flux Core. Worked great.

110v 100 AMP STICK ARC WELDER.......IT WAS CHEAP COULDNT PAST IT UP,,,,,,,I WAS WELDING ON STOCK SLAPPER BARS , DID IT TO DAY DIDNT TEST THEM YET ....I HAVE THEM GAPPED ABOUT 1/4 IN. FROM THE LOWER CONTROL ARMS WHILE TEST TOMORROW...........

Yeah, you need more heat. I'd be hesitant to weld on any axle housing without 220V. Crank that sucker full blast and keep your electrodes hot(like warm them in the oven). If the electrodes get any moisture at all they're ruined. You're going to have to determine if the weld is strong enough, but if you're having trouble getting the arc started, that's a big sign that the amps aren't high enough for the thickness of the steel.

If it were me, I'd be using 6013's and no way I'd try that with a little 110 welder. One more thing, you want that steel good and clean. No paint or rust on it at all.
