Paint dull after wet sand
Thanks for looking, I just completed a auto boby course to do some work on my 72 mach 1 after getting body shop prices to repair minor rust in the door. I wound up compleatly stripped the door welded patch panels filled and painted on my last class. It actually came out better than I could have hoped for but even in a paint booth it wound with some dust or whatever in the paint. Teacher told me to wet sand with 1500/2000. I did but now paint looks dull. Class is over teach not around what do I do? Any help appreciated.
Thanks Jon :) |
Re: Paint dull after wet sand
First off, what color is the car? Darker colors have more of a problem with this than lighter colors. Many times, the dust is better to leave on the paint as you are finding out.
What you need to do is to properly buff it and you should be able to restore the shine. |

Thanks, its Medium Yellow. I will try buffingI was afraid to do anything at this point I have a lot of hours in the door at this point.

Re: Paint dull after wet sand
Wet sanding is to take the "orange peel" surface off the paint so that it has the proper surface to shine, but the shine has to be buffed back in. Use a light polishing compound on your buffer and follow with a swirl mark remover to complete the shine. The results are awesome.
