Painting Fan Shroud?
Well, I'm trying to clean up the engine compartment and I've noticed that the dingy brown color of the fan shroud does little to help! How do you prepare the shroud to be painted? Has anyone used a spray gun? What type of paint did you use? Thanks for the help!

I haven't done this but you would need paint that adheres to plastic and can withstand heat. Check with an auto paint supplier or you can go the easy way and buy a brand new shroud for about $100. Part # E6ZE8146-AA.
Mustangs Unlimited has them, or a Ford dealer. [This message has been edited by Mr 5 0 (edited 10-19-2000).] |
Thanks for the response Mr 5.0! Ya know, if I get a better looking shroud, the stock filter box is going to look out of place. Hmmm, I got it! I need cold air induction! Thanks, anyone else have any ideas for the shroud?

Here is my suggestion, replace the shroud and fan with a electric unit, I replaced mind with one I purchased from Summit, Looked great perfect fit. and it kept the car cooler, and seat of the pants feel the car pick up some preformance, and I used the Mac cool chrome air kit that really brighten up the engine compartment. Electric fan was about 200 and the tube was about the same.

For what its worth - I painted the shroud, overflow bottle, washer bottle and master cylinder on my 87 LX using Eastwood underhood black about a year and a half ago and they all still look like the day I did them. I lightly sanded the surface of the parts, cleaned them real good with Pre, which is a paint pre cleaner from Eastwood and then painted.

Jaydee, thanks for the response. Eastwood has a ton of supplies so I'll have to check it out. Thanks!
