John:

I have never yet used clay, but the research that I have done I would say that it's not the clay that matters so much as the motion and the lotion.

:D

You are supposed to move the clay in a forwards and backwards motion...not circular. Also, some of the clay comes with detail spray that you use as the lubricant...for others you just get the bar and you make your own out of car wash soap.

I bought a clay bar about a week ago, but have not used yet as it isn't exactly car wash weather around here.

I really need to move.

It does matter which brand clay bar you go with....to an extent. Some cheap brands start to crumble after you use them, some brands aren't easy to bend and fold to expose a clean side, etc. Regardless of the brand, just make sure you use plenty of lubricant like Blake said and use back and forth motions, not circular. If the clay starts to 'stick' when you run it across the paint, you're not using enough lube.

I think the general consensus is the Zaino clay bar is one of the best.

Here is where you get Zaino clay. Looks cheaper than others but hard to tell the weight of the bar

Oh at WalMart you an get a 100g bar of Clay Magic with a spray bottle full of lubricant for $9.98. So it is probably cheaper.

The weight of the bar doesn't really matter because you apply light to moderate pressure while moving it across the surface. Also, the size/weight isn't a huge factor because when both sides get dirty, you stretch and fold the bar to expose a new side.....so as the surface gets dirty, you just fold it over to get a clean side.

One bar (of any size/weight) SHOULD clay AT LEAST one whole car. In the Zaino jar, you get two bars. That is more than a year's supply. Remember, you only need to clay twice a year.
