2000 Mustang GT

I have just purchased a 2000 Mustang GT. Two questions:
1) What octane should be used. The manual says 87, the dealer has told me 92.
2) I have never heard of 5W20 Oil. Although it does say to use it. The manual says 5W30. The filler cap says 5W20. If it happens to be 5W20 where do I get it. Is it made by Ford only. I have always used synthetic oil on all my cars. What would be the grade to use if 5W20 is not available in synthetic.Thanks...

I also have a 2000 GT and I was using 92 octane. I got carbon buildup because of it and now I have to have a carbon wash. Each wash is approximately $100 and if not your engine will knock. This is only after 5 months. Use 87 octane!

1. Dont use 92 unless you have some type of power adder (NOS, supercharger). Thats when it becomes absolutely necessary. A stock GT will be fine on 87 octane.
2. as for the oil. I live in the south and my dealer told me 10W40. Since the blower has been on I have run mobil 1 synthetic. But I can tremeber if I saw a 5W20 or not.

I also use synthetic oil. I know for sure Mobil does not make a 5W20 synthetic. They do have a conventional 5W20 motor oil. I have been using 87 octane without a problem. I appreciate your feedback. Thanks again.
