Rubbing out metalic paint...
I had the hood of my pickup painted a few years ago, it's a gold metalic ('92 Dodge). It's oxidized bad now. I took some rubbing compound to it with my power waxer and it looks like it smoothed it out pretty good but there's a grey residue, metalic I think, left behind that I can't get off. Any ideas, chemicals or something I can use to get this crap off?
Thanks... |

My car was hit about 3 months ago, It drug all along the driver side of my car... of course we dont now who hit it but never the less... the haze you are discribing is what remains on my car. I cannot get it off for anything. I have even paid professional detailers to try and get it off but no luck. So if you figure out how to get it of. PLEASE tell me. Someone once reccomended to me Carborator cleaner with water and wipe off... of course i never got gutsy enough to try it.
Good Luck |
I tried the carburator cleaner, it worked! Thanks.
Keep in mind my paint already looked like crap so I didn't have much to loose. It worked good though, wiped the metal flakes off without damaging the paint. The cloth was covered with the gray stuff. Good luck.... |
I read the same notes on here about carb cleaner. I have a Montana mini van in my corral that my son had a minor accident in when some one pulled out in front of him. The van has a grey bumper and there was white paint all over the drivers side front. I tried and tried to get it off. No luck!
Read the thread here got out my B12 Chem Tool. 5 minutes with this and some paper towels and the bumper looks like new! Don't see much down side in giving it a try. Start on a small spot. See if it helps. Wait a day see if it still looks ok. If so, go for a bigger spot. You don't have to do it all at once if you are worried. Just do a small spot and see if it works. B12 ChemTool by Berryman is cheap and can be got at any WalMart, AutoZone or what ever. You will want to follow up with some wax as I am sure this removes any protective wax coat you may have on the car. |
