First off, no wax layers. It is only designed to have silicone and other oils sit on top of your finish. If you "apply" another "coat" of wax, you're just putting on new silicone and not actually giving it a layering effect.
Secondly, no wax lasts a year. The first rain will wash off the same silicones and oils that give your car an "artificial" shine. Also, waxes have a melting point of around 115 degrees. Most car surfaces (the clearcoat especially) get to temperatures of 140-150 degrees, with darker colors getting up to 180.
