Just put 86 GT Taillights on my 90 GT, but have a question..
Not sure if I should put this here or not but here goes. I just picked up some 86 Taillights from a guy and I put them in and they look great, but they don't seem to be the same size as my old cheese graters that were in my 90. When the hatch is closed it overlaps the taillights a little bit, not a whole lot but enough that I notice when I look at the car. Did I mess up and get the wrong kind of 86 Taillights? Are the lights different sizes if they came out of a coupe or hatchback? I didn't even think to ask. Thought maybe someone else ran across this and maybe used spacers or something in order to position them right.

Im not sure about the sizing. I had 89 tail lights in my 86 for a while.. When I bought the car the 86 lights were jacked up so I got some 89's from a bud to run temporary like.. Fit fine.. Not sure what to tell ya.

The coupe and hatch use the same tail lights in 86.

I changed the entire housing. ALOT easier than changing just the lenses..

apon further inspection it would seem that the hatch does hang over slightly maybe 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch never really noticed before till you said something and switching just the lenses was pretty easy it took me about 1 minute per side i did the whole assembly before and it was deff more of a pita

I swapped the whole housing, I think it looks fine after looking at it again. Just thought I would see what you guys thought. After ditching the cheese grater tails I catch myself checking out my taillights every possible chance I get lol.
